Vatu Vara, the magnificent and most expensive private island, lies to the west of Mago in Lau Archipelago, Fiji, and since September 2006, it is ready to be sold, with the asking price set at US$75 million.

Also known as “Hat Island” due to its strange shape, Vatu Vara has a unique topography with limestone cliffs covered in dense tropical jungle on one side , while on the other parts, it is circled by a broad fringing reef, which, off the western coast swings sharply away from the shore to enclose the lagoon.

It seems that Vatu Vara is in fact a former atoll, called a ?Guyot? - an extinct volcano that has become overgrown by coral reefs to form an atoll. More than that, the flat top of the island was once at sea level, which is why the summit is flat.
